ANIMATION

1 Peter 4:10 Animation Process

During the Covid Pandemic shutdown I was sparked by a thought to begin reading the bible. However, instead of reading the whole bible, I decided to read certain scriptures and use my motion design skills to interpret those scriptures according to my understanding. I re-searched online to see if anyone else had animated bible scriptures online, and did not find any interesting animated bible scriptures. I decided to start a personal project where I created animations of scriptures. I experiment with different styles, stories, visual metaphors, and typography, in order to tell a story using my understanding of the message in the scripture.

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.

1 Peter 4:10

CONCEPT

Upon reading the scripture and thinking about how I receive gifts (given from family and friends), I thought about the personal connection one has when receiving one. Someone is giving us a gift, a person, another human being. Especially if they know us personally, it makes it more personable for us. With this thought I wanted to create the animation to feel very personable and connected. To make the animation feel personable and connected I approached the design from a handmade standpoint, creating the animated type to feel jittery and imperfect. I used different colors throughout the piece to represent how we’re all different with different personalities and different gifts. I used the specific choice in music so that people could hear the kids in the background and the birds in the background to further piece together a personable approach to the animation. The animation alone was created in a “stop-motion” flow to symbolize the handmade personable concept, because it presents the type with irregular and imperfect movements.
